Simbiotic Promotes Sustainability at Symrise Food Pet Colombia

In today's competitive business environment, integrating sustainable practices is essential to boosting companies' productivity and competitiveness. In this context, Simbiotic has demonstrated its ability to create value through the national program Factories of Productivity and Sustainability (Cycle 5), a Colombian government initiative in partnership with the Chambers of Commerce. This program is designed to provide technical assistance to businesses across the country, particularly SMEs, enabling them to improve key indicators of productivity and sustainability.

This success story highlights how our involvement in Symrise Food Pet Colombia Not only did it enable the programme's objectives to be met, it also allowed for the development of a comprehensive strategic plan and strengthened sustainability reporting.

Challenges and Goals of Symrise Food Pet Colombia

Symrise Food Pet Colombia set out to align its sustainability strategy at the Tocancipá plant in Cundinamarca with the high standards of its parent company. In addition to the program’s standard objectives, the company specifically required:

  • Development of a strategic sustainability plan: Although the “Productivity and Sustainability Factories” program focuses on improving operational indicators, Symrise needed a comprehensive strategic plan that would bring all sustainable best practices under a single corporate governance framework. This plan was intended to serve as a model for other plants in Latin America.
  • Generation and presentation of sustainability reports: It was crucial to determine which indicators to include, as well as to design a reporting template that would allow for the consistent and transparent communication of progress, aligning the company’s global sustainability information with local needs.

Simbiotic’s “Glocal” Methodology

To meet these additional requirements, Simbiotic implemented its methodology “Glocal”, which allows global sustainability information to be adapted to the specific characteristics of the local context. This approach facilitated:

  • Development and implementation of the strategic sustainability plan: A strategic model was co-created that aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals, serving as the foundation for developing a strategic roadmap that integrates projects, programs, and activities, enabling effective progress toward sustainability.
  • Definition and selection of key indicators: We worked closely with Symrise, conducting workshops with the team to identify the indicators that best reflected the plant’s sustainable performance. Particular emphasis was placed on reducing water consumption and optimizing RESPEL waste disposal costs.
  • Design of the sustainability report template: To facilitate the reporting of progress to headquarters, a report template was developed that meets both corporate and local requirements. This tool enables rigorous and transparent monitoring of results, promoting data-driven strategic decision-making.
