Puerto Nariño – Amazonas Digital Tool: A Success Story in Sustainable Tourism

Puerto Nariño’s digital tool represents a milestone in the implementation of Tourism 4.0 in environmentally sensitive areas. Developed by Simbiotic as part of the Sustainable Tourism Living Lab, this platform demonstrates that digital transformation can:

  • Strengthen cultural identity
  • Boost the local economy
  • Maintain consistency with the standards of a destination certified as sustainable.

Methodology

Simbiotic structured the project around a community-driven co-creation approach, involving the local community, government officials, and entrepreneurs to ensure that Puerto Nariño’s digital platform would reflect the destination’s actual dynamics. Rather than simply designing a website, the team implemented a comprehensive strategy that incorporated sustainability from the technological architecture all the way through to future content management.

The platform was developed based on specific criteria:

  • Green server hosting
  • Optimization for low data usage
  • Offline access option for limited connectivity
  • Accessibility and Inclusion Criteria
  • Prioritizing local experiences and initiatives.

At the same time, operational guidelines, standards, and monitoring indicators were established to ensure community ownership and continuous improvement.
